The Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey team visited Axed Nottingham as part of their pre-season training camp
This August (2022) we were hyped to host The Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey Team at our Nottingham venue. As the team entered the early stages of their training camp, they stopped by for a little friendly competition to get the team riled up ready for the season.
We started by sectioning The Panthers off into 5 teams to get them warmed up and into the swing of things. Everyone went through our safety brief and practiced on our Interactive Smart Laneswith some friendly games of Highscore, Area Control and Axe Royale. The team were mostly naturals (given that a portion of the team are Canadian, we weren’t surprised!) and they look to landing the axes in the boards with ease.
Next stage of The Panthers’ session was to ramp up the competition. We had the team recording their highest score on three axes thrown at the target. We began adding scores to the board to find the top players amongst the team ready for a throw off. This revealed the team’s top scorers and most proficient axe throwers as follows;
Mike Caruso
Luke Ferrara
Mathieu Gagnon
Tanner Sorenson
Kelly Summers
Through to the finals, these players prepared to go head-to-head in a 10-axe standoff, to find the Ultimate Panthers Axe Thrower. It was a close competition with all the finalists bringing top scores to the table, as the rest of The Panthers team watched from our tiered seating area. The atmosphere was awesome with supportive cheers and applause from the viewing area, many of the team now sporting official Axed Global merchandise gifted to them by our Nottingham venue.
Mathieu Gagnon was declared the overall winner of The Nottingham Panthers Axed Global Throw-Off with an impressive score. He was thrilled with his win and had some great feedback about the whole team’s experience with Axed Nottingham.
“It was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed themselves,” said Gagnon.
“And yeh, of course I loved winning. I won’t let the guys forget about it for a while.”
The whole team left the venue after a couple of promo shots, pumped to take on this season over at The Motorpoint Arena. Gagnon said:
“It was great for team bonding and those things are really important in training camp.”
It was awesome to host The Nottingham Panthers and help them to come together as a team as part of their pre-season preparation. We saw some great bonds being made between team members and some solid camaraderie amongst the group too. We want to wish The Nottingham Panthers good luck with this coming season, we are sure they are going to smash it!
